On the day of his retirement, Justice Jasti Chelameswar tells NDTV that bargaining does happen among collegium judges on appointment of judges and that it's nothing new. He said he tried his best not to allow this to happen. On Justice KM Joseph, the retired judge said his views on Justice Joseph are on record, and declined to say if the collegium had a sort of consensus on such matters. On government interference in the judiciary, he said, "Occasionally, subtle efforts are made... Attempts are always made, not only in India, but every country, it happens." On Prime Time, Ravish Kumar asks whether the lakhs of applicants hopeful of securing job in Uttar Pradesh Police as constables will have to wait for years for the results to be announced. The scene witnessed at railway stations in districts where examinations were held for the recruitment of constables in UP Police was no different from the crowds seen during religious festivals such as Kumbh Mela. Thousands of applicants were asleep on the platforms as well as on the streets on the night before the exams held on June 18 for vacancies in UP Police. Justice Jasti Chelameswar, the second most senior judge in the Supreme Court, has retired today. He was one of the four judges who, in January, had questioned the way cases are assigned in the Supreme Court. He has said he will not take any employment from the government after his retirement. On whether going for the press conference was a move he would look back and see in a different light, Justice Chelameswar told NDTV: "No, I don't repent." On the sixth day of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's sit-in, the deadlock between the Aam Aadmi Party and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal over the IAS officers' alleged "strike" remains unresolved. The Aam Aadmi Party in a press conference this evening said that they will be marching tomorrow at 4 pm from the Mandi House in the New Delhi area to the Prime Minister's residence to build pressure on him to act. Mr Kejriwal, along with his colleagues, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, health minister Satyendar Jain and development minister Gopal Rai stayed put at the Lt Governor's office even today. Mr Jain and Mr Sisodia started a hunger strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. On Friday, Mr Kejriwal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second time, asking for his intervention to end the "strike", which according to Mr Kejriwal, has been going on for the past four months. While he stays camped inside the Lt Governor's house, NDTV sent some questions to Arvind Kejriwal, and he sent back his replies through a video. Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party will join forces for the 2019 elections, Akhilesh Yadav told NDTV in Lucknow. "Based on our conversation, both our parties will together fight elections in 2019", the 44-year-old president of the Samajwadi Party, or SP, said. Speculation has been rife whether the two former arch rivals - who came together for last month's bypolls to produce a shock defeat for the ruling BJP - will be able to sustain their formidable alliance until the Lok Sabha elections. This week, there was much heartburn all around after it came to light that the Delhi archbishop in a letter to other parishioners asked for a prayer campaign as a lead up to elections 2019. In his letter Archbishop Anil Couto used some strong words like "troubled times" and "turbulent political atmosphere which in turn is a threat to democratic atmosphere" but what really enraged many especially the government was that he asked for a prayer campaign in a lead up to 2019, while it didn't mention the BJP, the clergyman's words were very clear and Tonight on Reality check we get to the bottom of it, especially today when the head of the catholic church in India cardinal Oswald Gracias met with home minister Rajnath singh today, he says it is a courtesy call but coming the same week as this entire controversy where many have questioned the propriety of a church figure saying this, one can't deny the coincidence of it. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tells NDTV that both the BJP and the PDP are equally to be blamed for the deteriorating situation in the state. He ruled out any alliance between Congress-PDP and his National Conference saying that his earlier offer was to keep the BJP out and said, "If Mufti Sayeed had accepted our hand of friendship at that time which was completely unconditional, which didn't involve the National Conference participating in government, I don't think things in the state would have reached the point where they have today." On Prime Time, a discussion on the bypolls in the Kairana Lok Sabha constituency in which Jats and Muslims came together to vote against the BJP. Have the voters of Kairana proved that polarising politics are not shortcuts to win the elections? Will political parties learn to address key issues such as agricultural income, providing basic facilities such as roads and electricity more important and need addressing, rather than engaging in divisive politics? Bit by bit, one by one, the BJP has made inroads into what was once a citadel of the Congress party - the northeast. Till 2016, the Congress was in power in five of the eight northeastern states. Now, the BJP is ruling Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Which is why the results of the Tripura, Meghlaya and Nagaland assembly polls are so important, because this could see the BJP expand its footprint further. The BJP's target is clear - they want to win big here because the northeast has 25 Lok Sabha seats and these could prove crucial in the 2019 general election. Make no mistake, their target is 25 out of 25. Part of their grand election strategy to focus on the 120 seats they have never won before. Joining us on the show, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijjiju on the party's battle plans. He is the author of a key American law that strongly punished Pakistan for pursuing a nuclear programme by misusing US aid. Senator Larry Pressler, who advocated the famous Pressler Amendment, is out with a new book 'Neighbours In Arms'. It takes an in-depth look at how the US was once deeply worried about the development of nuclear weapons, and how it stopped aid and military sales as a result. How did that all unravel later? Have train delays become so commonplace and treated as a norm that even an MP can do little about it? Lok Sabha MP Harish Dwivedi had gone with his supporters to Babhnan Railway station to celebrate the introduction of the station as a new halting point for Manvar Sangam Express that goes from Allahabad to Basti. However, it was found that the train was late by several hours and eventually he had to do a token inaugural ceremony and leave before the train arrived.
