A prison provides the gritty backdrop for this touching redemption story set to Mack Wilberg's cinematic arrangement of the Christmas classic "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly." Music is available on the album "Keep Christmas With You" http://bit.ly/1RnHLQj Lyrics: Infant holy, infant lowly, For his bed a cattle stall; Oxen lowing, little knowing, Christ the babe is Lord of all. Swift are winging angels singing, Nowells ringing, tidings bringing: Christ the babe is Lord of all. Flocks were sleeping, shepherds keeping Vigil till the morning new Saw the glory, heard the story, Tidings of a gospel true. Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow, Praises voicing, greet the morrow: Christ the babe was born for you.

For the story behind this song: https://youtu.be/JD9CkkjACjE The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square perform Mack Wilberg's arrangement of "It Is Well with My Soul," by Philip P. Bliss. Life can be so unpredictable—joys and sorrows, beautiful blessings and distressing difficulties, can come unexpectedly. Our life’s dreams and plans can change in an instant. We all know this to be true. So how can we find peace amid such turbulence? Horatio Spafford knew something about life’s unexpected challenges. He was a successful attorney and real estate investor who lost a fortune in the great Chicago fire of 1871. Around the same time, his beloved four-year-old son died of scarlet fever. Thinking a vacation would do his family some good, he sent his wife and four daughters on a ship to England, planning to join them after he finished some pressing business at home. However, while crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship was involved in a terrible collision and sunk. More than 200 people lost their lives, including all four of Horatio Spafford’s precious daughters. His wife, Anna, survived the tragedy. Upon arriving in England, she sent a telegram to her husband that began: “Saved alone. What shall I do?” Horatio immediately set sail for England. At one point during his voyage, the captain of the ship, aware of the tragedy that had struck the Spafford family, summoned Horatio to tell him that they were now passing over the spot where the shipwreck had occurred. As Horatio thought about his daughters, words of comfort and hope filled his heart and mind. He wrote them down, and they have since become a well-beloved hymn: When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll— Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know It is well, it is well with my soul. Perhaps we cannot always say that everything is well in all aspects of our lives. There will always be storms to face, and sometimes there will be tragedies. But with faith in a loving God and with trust in His divine help, we can confidently say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.” Episode 4580. Aired June 25, 2017.

Capping off an intense week of multiple recording sessions inside the historic Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Andrea Bocelli and David Foster joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for a few hours this month (see video below). "The Lord's Prayer," featuring Andrea Bocelli, the choir and orchestra, and David Foster at the organ will be part of a PBS Christmas special produced by WNET. After several takes, David Foster then switched to the piano to accompany both the choir and orchestra for "The Prayer," a song he personally composed, which will be featured in an upcoming choir and orchestra recording. Between takes of the recording process, Bocelli sat down at the Tabernacle's famous pipe organ and gave an impromptu recital of "Ave Maria" while accompanying himself. "It was beautiful; his sweet voice carried throughout the Tabernacle," said choir member Robb Cundick, who also said the unplanned performance was his favorite part of the afternoon. After the conclusion of "The Lord's Prayer," Bocelli said he had enjoyed his day in Salt Lake as well as singing in the Tabernacle. He complimented the Tabernacle acoustics and said that the entire experience was very moving. "For me it was a huge experience," Bocelli said. "The quality of the choir is very high. ... The orchestra also (is) very inspiring."

Purchase a DVD of "The Redeemer:" http://bit.ly/2oVptiX The Redeemer: A Service of Sacred Music, written by former Tabernacle organist Robert Cundick, was performed as an Easter Concert in March 2008 by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. The Choir and Orchestra are joined in this performance by distinguished soloists. Soprano, Sara Thomas - Mary Soprano, Jennifer Welch-Babidge - Angel Soprano, Rebecca Wilberg - Angel Mezzo-Soprano, Laura Garff Lewis - Angel Baritone, Darrell Babidge - The Savior Baritone, Shane Warby - Prophet Bass-Baritone, Clayton Brainerd - Prophet "The Redeemer" is an oratorio-like work in three parts: the Prophecy, the Sacrifice, and the Promise. Scored for choir, orchestra, and soloists, it was written by Dr. Robert Cundick, former Salt Lake Tabernacle organist for 27 years. This video captures the performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square conducted by Dr. Mack Wilberg on the 30th anniversary of the work's premiere. The creation of "The Redeemer" grew out of a desire by Brigham Young University professor of music Ralph Woodward to produce a work of genuine stature that would have meaning for not only Latter-day Saints but all Christians. He selected the text from all four of the standard works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He then approached Dr. Cundick to compose the music for the work, which was completed over an intense 10-week period in late 1977. The work was premiered by the music ensembles at BYU in the spring of 1978. Interestingly, a significant number of Mormon Tabernacle Choir members singing in this concert were students in that original performance. The Redeemer: A Service of Sacred Music, by Robert Cundick.
