B side of the single "Run with the fox", a 1981 Christmas song written, composed, produced, and performed by Chris Squire and Alan White. Both former Yes members, Squire and White recorded the song after their new band XYZ with Jimmy Page seemed unlikely to happen, and released the single under their own names as a collaborative piece. "Run with the Fox" is for both their first solo work since their respective first solo albums: 1975's Fish out of the Water for Squire, and 1976's Ramshackled for White. Andrew Pryce Jackman, a childhood friend and frequent collaborator of Squire, was in charge of orchestration. The B-side of the single, "Return of the Fox", is a more instrumental variation of "Run with the Fox', co-written by former King Crimson member Peter Sinfield. It features Dave Lawson (ex-Greenslade keyboardist & vocalist), another member of XYZ, on keyboards, and Squire's wife Nikki on backing vocals. Following "Run with the Fox", both musicians collaborated again in the band Cinema which ultimately led to the reformation of Yes.

Geoff Downes Talks About Losing Close Prog Friends and YES In The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame It's been a rough few years in Prog Rock. Yes bassist Chris Squire died in the summer of 2015, both Keith Emerson and Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer passed in 2016 and King Crimson and Asia's John Wetton died just last month. Downes shared the spotlight with Wetton as members of Asia and the group was all lined up to tour this year until the singer had to bow out because of health concerns only to pass a few weeks later. Downes told the Sun-Herald, “I was very, very saddened by that. It’s a big blur. I was very, very close to him." Asia was working on new material when this all went down but the keyboardist says there will be a new album on the way with material from Wetton. Downes said, “He had a lot of material for it. I think we will definitely do something with it because I think John would like me to do that.” As for all the rock stars dying so quickly and closely together Downes says they are all at “that age,” adding, “It’s part of life. But it’s been a particularly tough time with losing Chris and my good friends Keith Emerson and Greg Lake at the end of last year. It’s been a tough time. Maybe we just have to say “That’s life” and just get on, you know? It doesn’t make it any more palatable. John and I have been writing songs together for what seems like forever and that’s something no one’s going to be able to take away from me nor John’s legacy.” Downes is a current member of both Yes and Asia (he was also in the Buggles that gave us"Video Killed the Radio Star" in 1979). With Yes being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year (only the following members were included - Jon Anderson Bill Bruford Steve Howe Tony Kaye Trevor Rabin Chris Squire Rick Wakeman Alan White.) Downes was asked if he would like to at least perform this year he said, “I totally will. That’s a good question. Certainly from my standpoint, I would like to. But they cap the amount of inductees that they have. But in the whole grand scheme of things, it’s probably the right choice because I think the ones getting inducted are deserving of it. I think all in all it’s fair.” Adding, “But that said, I would certainly like to go and I think the other band members in this version of Yes would like to go as well. We just have to play it by ear. If there’s a big objection from Jon Anderson or someone that we shouldn’t be there, then we’ll see what happens. But I’m not certain about the performance yet.” - by John Beaudin Read more here: http://www.sunherald.com/entertainment/article133319719.html#storylink=cpy John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 33 years and a music journalist since 1989. So, I went to Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp in the summer of 2013 in Las Vegas to meet the guys in Yes. Chris Squire is my all-time bass hero. Unfortunately there weren't enough keyboard players signed up for the camp, so my group assignment was just a power trio of guitar/bass/drums. We couldn't work up any Yes tunes. So when it was our turn to jam with the guys from Yes, we decided to work up a song by The Who, Pinball Wizard. I had always read that Chris was a fan of John Entwistle and The Who. So when Chris and Jon Davison showed up, we explained the situation and proposed the song. Chris says, "You know, I've heard the tune 1000 times, but I've never played it - you'll have to teach it to me!" So I proceed to instruct my idol on how to play the song in about 3 minutes, including all the breaks and modulation. Just a wee bit intimidating, ya think! I thought it was funny how he was somewhat incredulous that the vamp at the end of the song went to a Bb chord, this coming from a guy who has written some of the most complicated music in rock history. We gave Jon a lyric sheet and away we go. We made it through in typical rough informal unrehearsed jam fashion, complete with microphones feeding back, etc. It all made for a very memorable experience for me - I was able to give a little bit back to the guy who gave me so much knowledge and enjoyment of the bass guitar and progressive rock music. Here's to you Chris Squire - it was a pleasure being able to share the gift of music with you and you will be sorely missed.

'Y E S' Drumming Legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Alan White on The Ray Shasho Show Alan White is considered by many to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time. With forty-plus years of performance experience and appearances on over fifty albums, Alan’s dossier reads like a who’s-who of rock legends. With his consummate professionalism and easy-going nature, Alan continues to be an inspiration to fellow musicians as well as fans. In the summer of 1968, Alan was asked to join Ginger Baker’s Airforce, a new group being put together by the former drummer of Cream and other noted musicians from England’s music scene including Steve Winwood, formerly of Traffic. In 1969, Alan received what he thought at the time to be a prank phone call, but was actually John Lennon calling to ask Alan to join the Plastic Ono Band. The next day Alan found himself learning songs in the back of an airliner en-route to Toronto with Lennon, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton and Klaus Voorman. The ensuing album, Live Peace in Toronto, sold millions of copies, peaking at number 10 on the pop charts. Alan’s association with Lennon continued, recording singles like ‘Instant Karma’ and the subsequent landmark album, Imagine, with Alan providing drums for the title song, ‘Jealous Guy’, and ‘How Do You Sleep at Night’. Alan’s work with Lennon led to an introduction to George Harrison, who asked Alan to perform on the album All Things Must Pass, including the hit single, ‘My Sweet Lord’, released in 1970. In June 1972, while on tour with Joe Cocker, Alan got a phone call from his manager, who said that Yes wanted him to join the band. His current tour was ending so he flew back to England for a meeting with Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, who told him that he was joining Yes or “they were going to throw me out the third-story window,” recalls Alan. Three days later, on June 30th, Yes, along with their new drummer, opened their US tour before 15,000 fans in Dallas, Texas. Alan and Yes gave each other three months to see if it would work out, and more than thirty years later, Alan is an integral part of the band, having played on every Yes studio and live album recorded since. Founded in 1968 by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, Grammy-award winning recording artists YES have created some of the most important and influential music in rock history, such as iconic pieces “Roundabout,” “Close to the Edge,” “I’ve Seen All Good People,” “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” “Starship Trooper,” and countless others. Its albums, including Fragile, Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Going For the One and 90125, have been certified multi-platinum, double-platinum, platinum, and have sold over 50 million records total in its career that has so far spanned almost five decades. Among the world’s most influential, ground-breaking, and respected progressive rock bands, YES continues creating masterful music that inspires musicians, fans and music lovers around the world. Time off from the Yes’ hectic touring and recording schedule allows Alan to pursue other projects as well. With longtime friend and technical guru, Reek Havok, he formed ‘Crash and Bang’, to provide music for the entertainment industry, including video games and television shows. “It also serves as a testing ground for new music hardware and software and new approaches to music and it’s psychological effects on the user and an excuse to plug the wrong things together just to see what happens!”, adds Reek. In 2005, Alan formed a new band, aptly called White, who released their self-titled debut album in January 2006. White performs regularly in the Seattle-area, when time permits. In recent years, Alan has performed with a variety of artists, including Spencer Davis, The Ventures, Charlie Daniels and Eddie Money, to name but a few. In 2007, Alan played alongside Keith Emerson, Simon Kirk and Yes bassist Chris Squire at the Ahmet Ertegün memorial show, as part of the opening act for Led Zeppelin. He also conducts numerous drum clinics around the country and around the world to encourage and teach other drummers. Alan and his wife Gigi are very active in the Seattle arts community, serving on the board of directors for Music Aid Northwest, Northwest Program for the Arts, and the Seattle Theatre Group. Alan is also a member of the Seattle Chapter of The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. YES will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of 2017, The induction, following two previous nominations, will occur one year shy of the legendary progressive rock band’s 50th anniversary. Here is "Fanfare"... we were just about to dive into it when Keith called out to me asking if he could play it instead..? Absolutely no problem sir..! But I had to keep in mind that we did have a setlist which also had our own arrangements within. I wanted each number to run smoothly and not turn the gig into a jam without any form... so I tried explaining there and then, on stage with him, how our versions were assembled. No easy task - remember this wasn't planned - it was a complete surprise to us all. As well as all that we played "Fanfare" with the full intro. I explained I'd start it and as you can see, he was about to walk away and I had to spot that and pull him back. "Hey Emo, you stand there and wait until I say you're on..!" Well, not quite, but you get the idea... :)
