Derived from Sanskrit, mahat means "great" or "grand," and pranayama means "breathing technique." To perform mahat yoga pranayama, it is suggested to begin in padmasana, vajrasana or sukhasana. The hands are placed on the knees, the eyes are closed, and the breathing is slow and long. Place the right palm on the upper abdomen and feel the breath flow up to the lower lungs. Then place the right palm on the middle of the chest. Direct the breath here and feel the expansion in the area. After a few breaths, place the palm on the upper chest and direct the breath here. Feel the breath flow and the expansion of the area here. Now place the palms back on the knees in gyan mudra. On an inhale, direct the breath first to the lower lobes of the lungs, following up to the middle and upper lobes. Reverse this direction on the exhale. Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga means union of the individual consciousness or soul with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit. Asanas are thought to have physical health benefits and can lead to injury in roughly 1 in 20 practitioners a year in the U.S. Different authors or schools of yoga may have different names for an asana. Many asanas have multiple names or one name may refer to multiple asanas.

The body looks like the shape of camel so it is called as Ushtrasana. Specially good for a back problem, relaxing mind, blood circulation, respiratory system, endocrine and nervous system. To learn this asana in simple steps, follow the step by step instructions given below and get started with the pose: 1. Kneel down on the floor. Your knees, hips and thighs should be perpendicular to the floor. 2. Now try to move your thighs inwards. 3. Rest your hands on your hips in such a way that your palms are placed on your buttocks and fingers pointing towards the floor. 4. Try to bring your chest in the upward direction and lower your arms a little thus trying to bend your body backwards. 5. Try to place your hands on the ground with your palms touching the ground. 6. Rest the front side of your feet on the floor and balance your body on your palms and feet. 7. Try to balance your body in this position. 8. Now lift up your hands and try to catch your feet with your fingers. 9. Inhale and exhale deeply and properly. 10. BHASTRIKA PRANAYAMA ! Bhastrika Pranayama in Yoga is said to be a type of breathing exercise. An individual practicing this pranayama will be filled with energy and power. Procedure : Sit in a comfortable Asana. Close your eyes. Breathe in through both the nostrils forcefully, till the lungs are full and diaphragm is stretched. Then breathe out forcefully. Duration : 2 mins atleast. 5 mins max. Benefits : heart, lungs, brain, depression, migraine, paralysis, neural system, aabha Detailed Procedure: Sit in a comfortable Asana. Close your eyes.Breathe in through both the nostrils forcefully, till the lungs are full and diaphragm is stretched. Then breathe out forcefully also, but see that the abdominal cavity does not blow up due to the air breathed in. Depending upon the capacity and health of an individual, this Pranayama can be done in three variable speeds viz. slow speed, moderate speed and at high speed. Individuals with weak lungs and heart should do this at a slow speed while performing Recak and Puraka A healthy individual and one used to doing it, should do it initially at a slow speed and then gradually increase the speed to moderate and then high. This Pranayama should be done for 5 to 10 minutes. Special Notes: Those suffering from high blood pressure or from any heart disease should not do this Pranayama. While breathing in the abdominal area should not blow up. You have to fill the air in the chest area, i.e. up to diaphragm, so that the part of the chest with its ribs swells. In summer season, reduce the number of repititions of this Pranayama. One must do this Pranayama for the duration of three to five minutes every day. Incase both the nostrils do not open on account of ailments like severe cough or sinus etc., for such persons they should first close the right nostril and do respiration (exhalation as well as inhalation) through the left nostril. Then the left nostril should be closed and respiration should be done by the right nostril. This method of alternate breathing should be continued at the desired speed viz. slow, moderate or fast, till both the nostrils open simultaneously. Then at the end Pranayama should be completed by doing Recak and Pruaka through both Ida and Pingala. While doing this Pranayama keep both the eyes closed and mentally chant the mantra "OM" throughout the exercise of Pranayama. Benefits: Diseases like cold, cough, allergy, asthma, respiratory diseases of all kinds, are cured. Lungs become strong and due to the heart and head getting adequate quantity of pure and fresh air, health is improved. Diseases of the throat like thyroid, tonsils and other ailments of throat are cured. * At least 4 vigorous breaths. * At least on release mildly and followed by lengthening relaxing breaths (Ujjayi). * Holding of the breath after these relaxing breaths. (Kumbhaka). * Performing back vigorous breaths after retention of inhalation for a measured period. And calming breaths. Benefits of Bhastrika Pranayam: * This stimulates the gastric organs or the Jathragni (digestive fire). Increasing appetite. * It dissolves or releases toxins present in the body that are produced from the excess of air, bile and phlegm. * Provides relief in various throat inflammations. * Raises the body temperature thus making the body warm. * Provides relief in disorders of the nose, chest and even helps to eradicate asthma. * Purifies the Nadis. * Extremely useful in oxygen deficiency disorders and muscular dystrophy. * Brings and maintains a proper balance in the three doshas that are present in the body. * Purification of blood and body is freed from toxins or foreign material. * Stabilizes the Prana and produces calmness in mind. * This stabilization of the Prana brings the calmness of the mind helping in the upward journey of Prana from the Muladhara Chakra (Sacral or Coccygeal Plexus) to the Sahashara Chakra (Brain). * Helps to burn fat naturally promoting weight loss. * Curing disease like Obesity and Arthritis. A sports hernia is basically a strain or tear in the soft tissue of your lower abdomen or groin area. A sports hernia is usually caused by sports where you plant your feet and twist with maximum effort, like soccer, wrestling and football. These stretches & exercises should help. See Doctor Jo’s blog post about this at: http://www.askdoctorjo.com/sports-hernia First you will do transverse abdominis (TA) recruitment. For TA recruitment, go to top of your hip bone, slide your fingers towards your belly button, and then cough. The muscles pushing into fingers are the ones you want to contract. Breath in and slowly blow out like you are blowing out candles while you are keeping the muscles engaged. This will help retrain the muscles to work correctly. Do this about 5 times. Now you will do some stretches for the hip flexors. Start in a kneeling position. Place the knee of the hip flexor you want to stretch on the ground, and take the opposite leg and bend it in front of you at a ninety-degree angle. You might want to place a pillow under your knee to protect it. You will be in a lunge position with the knee of your injured side on the ground. Now drive the knee of the uninjured side forward away from your body. Hold for 30 seconds, and do this 3 times. Next you will stretch your quad muscles. Place the knee of the quad you want to stretch on the ground, and take the opposite leg and bend it in front of you at a ninety-degree angle. You might want to place a pillow under your knee to protect it. You will be in a lunge position with the knee of your injured side on the ground. Then grab the ankle of the side you want to stretch and pull it up towards your buttocks. Hold for 30 seconds, and do it 3 times. Then you will stretch your groin/inner thigh area. This is a simple butterfly stretch. Sit on the ground, and put your feet together pulling them towards your body. If you need more of a stretch, you can place your elbows on your inner thighs, and apply gentle pressure downwards. Hold the stretches for 30 seconds, doing 3 of each set. Now you will stretch your inner thigh/adductor muscles. In a tall kneeling position, put the let you want to stretch out to the side of your body. Point your toes forward, and try to keep your leg straight. Lean downward and away until you feel a stretch. Hold it for 30 seconds, and do it three times. Finally, you will do a hamstring stretch. There are many ways to stretch them, and you can check out the hamstring stretches video for other ways to stretch them. The most important part of this stretch is to keep your back straight. Many people try to curl their backs to be able to touch their toes. Your hamstrings are attached to what is called the ischial tuberosity, or your butt bone. So if you bend at your back, you are not going to get a good hamstring stretch. Try to bend at your hips. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds and do it three times.
