This short routine helps you to alleviate some of the symptoms of the common cold such as body aching and tension. You may need a yoga block and a yoga blanket for this routine. First we will come to a hands and knees position and take a few cat and cow poses before coming into child's pose (balasana). We will then repeat that once more. Then to release neck and shoulder tension, we will come into hero pose (virasana) for some shoulder and neck rolls. We will also take a brief back bend to combat fatigue. Next, we'll come to a seat and take a wide leg forward bend (upavista konasana) before taking savasana with your head elevated to alleviate nasal congestion. EXERCISES TO REDUCE KNEE PAIN - https://youtu.be/ka-I_EIWBog This video is about how to manage your knee pain by simple 5 exercises using stretch band, pillow and a towel. This will help you to strengthen your knees and avoid muscular imbalance. Let me explain the causes of knee pain. It could be overweight, knee injury like a fall and old age leading to osteoporosis or calcium deficiency in the bones. These are few of the major causes. The above factors puts severe pressure on the knee and the muscles around the knee give away leading to muscular imbalance. So in order for the knee to function efficiently, one must exercise the whole body to keep the weight in its optimum level. In addition to that , these quadriceps exercise should be performed. There are two major muscles that hold the knee in place are Quadriceps and Hamstrings. The 5 exercises shown in this video is targetted in strengthening these two major muscles. First advice is if you have severe pain, consult your doctor or orthopaedician first. Once the pain subsides then start strengthening the knees using these 5 exercises 1. Knee Flexion with elastic band 2. Straight leg raise 3. Static Quads exercise (Pull the knee cap -patella up with hips and heels touching the ground) 4. Pillow Squeeze exercise 5. Wall squats /Half squats Note: Most importantly make sure your knees don't go over the toes as you do the half squats. Visualise as if you are sitting on a chair and squat until the thighs are parallel to the ground. Upcoming video will be on how to manage back pain with simple exercises that can be done at home. We may take the red stuff that runs through us for granted but it actually does quite a lot as it works through the circulatory system: • supplies oxygen to cells and tissues • provides nutrients to cells, such as amino acids, fatty acids, and glucose • removes waste, such as carbon dioxide, urea, and lactic acid • transports hormones from one part of the body to another, transmitting messages and completing important processes • regulates acidity (pH) levels and body temperature If nutrients and oxygen carried through the blood don’t flow properly, you can expect one or more of the following symptoms of poor-circulation. 1. Reduced Brain Performance The brain needs fifteen to twenty percent of your entire blood supply to work. If there’s poor-circulation and not enough blood gets to the brain, you may experience lapses in memory or lax cognition. One study showed that if the heart doesn’t pump blood fast enough, a consequence is decreased blood flow to the brain. Over time, inadequate blood supply can result in dementia, other cognitive decline, and advanced aging of the brain in general. Decreased blood supply to the brain can also lead to stuttering and other impairments. One way to improve blood-circulations is by exercising regularly. 2. Cold Hands and Feet Poor circulation is most evident in the extremities. Cold or numbness, wounds that take a long time to heal, brittle toe nails, or bluish or cracked skin of the feet and hands can indicate they’re not getting enough blood. Diabetics especially often experience poor-circulation, causing pain and sometimes disability of the feet. 3. Fatigue Just as it’s hard to go about your day if you don’t eat, on the microscopic level, cells don’t function well if they don’t receive the nutrition and oxygen they need. Your body automatically prioritizes the processes that have the greatest need for blood (like the brain and heart) and can cut back on the supply to other organs and bodily systems. Sore muscles, shortness of breath, and general fatigue is one of the most common signs of poor-circulation. 4. Lack of Appetite Poor blood circulation can affect the digestive system, starting with the liver and extending into the intestines. The liver filters the blood and is also nourished by it. Additionally, blood-flow is important to the entire digestive-tract, as plasma is created there and picks up nutrients to deliver to the rest of the body. Reduction in appetite or sudden weight loss can signal poor blood flow because the digestive system doesn’t have the energy to work as hard as it must to break down food. This may cause you to feel full despite eating small meals. 5. Varicose Veins Varicose veins are the most obvious physical signs of poor-circulation. There are valves in veins that regulate blood flow so that it goes in only one direction—toward the heart. These valves can become weakened and leak, allowing oxygen-poor blood to flow in the wrong direction. This causes the veins to swell and can become visible through the skin. Varicose veins are often harmless, however, they do indicate a greater risk for more serious circulatory problems. Ustrasana Yoga For Heart - Or The Camel Pose. This is a graceful backbend that stretches and opens your entire body, particularly the frontal region. The neck, chest and quadriceps derive most of the benefit of this posture. Not only does it develop these regions, but it also works on and strengthens your back, significantly improving posture. If executed perfectly it can act as a stimulant for the abdominal organs, relieve menstrual pain, fatigue and indigestion, and ease back aches and pains. Technique: 1) Sit in Vajrasana i.e. squat on the floor, toes pointing backwards 2) Now, stand on your knees with arms at the sides 3) Spread knees about half a foot apart 4) Bend your body backwards and hold your ankles with both hands so that you end up looking at the ceiling 5) Push the abdomen forward as much as possible keeping the thighs vertical 6) Return to the starting position, slowly releasing the hands from the ankles, one at a time 7) Return to Vajrasana and relax breathing normally 8) As with all yoga, make sure to monitor and steady your breathing 9) Avoid this pose if you have any serious injury to your lower back or neck Camel Pose is a progression from the simpler prone backbend like Dhanurasana (Bow Pose). Step By Step Procedure For Attaining The Posture: Kneel on the floor with your knees at hip width and thighs perpendicular to the floor. Keep your thighs pressed together. Move your hands to the back, just above the buttocks. Now lean back and slide your hands over your legs till they reach the ankles. Here The Camel Pose or Ustrasana picture. Which is a progression that builds on from the Bow Pose or Dhanurasana. A graceful backbend that stretches and opens your entire body, particularly the frontal region. To begin with you might not find this easy to do, and if you feel a strain in the back, don't push yourself beyond that point. Press your palms firmly against your soles (or heels), with the bases of the palms on the heels and the fingers pointing toward the toes. Turn your arms outwardly so the elbow creases face forward, without squeezing the shoulder blades together. You can keep your neck in a relatively neutral position, neither flexed nor extended, or drop your head back. But be careful not to strain your neck and harden your throat. Stay in this pose anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. To exit, bring your hands onto the front of your pelvis, at the hip points. Inhale and lift the head and torso up by pushing the hip points down, toward the floor. If your head is back, lead with your chest to come up, not by jutting the chin upwards. You may use a pad/mat/hard cushion/blanket under your knees and shins. Beginners very often may not be able to touch their hands to their feet without straining their back or neck. First, try to turn your toes under and elevate your heels. If this doesn't work, the next thing to do is to rest each hand on a block. Position the blocks just outside each heel, and stand them at their highest height (usually about 9 inches). If you're still having difficulty, get a chair. Kneel for the pose with your back to the chair, with your calves and feet below the seat and the front edge of the seat touching your buttocks. Then lean back and bring your hands to the sides of the seat or high up on the front chair legs.
