The Story Behind the Memorial Bracelet "I'll Stand Up and Say So" is a patriotic anthem that poignantly echos the beliefs of millions of Americans that it is time to stand up and speak up for the love of God and country and for the men and women who died in service to this great nation ensuring those very freedoms. Tim Atwood, a thirty-eight year veteran of the Grand Ole Opry stage and the father of a Purple Heart veteran, incorporated I'll Stand Up and Say So into his show when he first saw professional athletes take a knee during our national anthem. He explained that while our Constitution gives those athletes the right to kneel, he chooses to proudly stand for his country and for those men and women in service who can no longer stand for themselves due to injury or death. The sentiments of the song, along with the honest passion Tim displays during each performance, brings audiences to their feet—every time. In the summer of 2017, a woman in the audience was so moved by Tim's performance that immediately after hearing Tim perform I'll Stand Up and Say So she presented Tim with a treasured gift. She removed a silver-toned, cuff style bracelet from her wrist and explained that it was a Memorial Bracelet designed to honor U.S. military men and women killed or missing in action. To wear a Memorial Bracelet is a commitment and an honor. For twenty-six years she had worn this bracelet in memory of Capt. William D. Grimm, a U.S. Airman Killed in Action during Operation Desert Storm. In all those years, she had never removed that bracelet from her wrist. Through tear filled eyes she confided that she was so touched by the song and the way Tim sang the song with a visible love for God and country that she wanted to pass the torch to keep Capt. Grimm's memory alive. She knew in her heart, Tim was the right person for this mission. As she walked away, she said, “It's time I share this bracelet with you...and it's time you share Capt. Grimm's memory with the world.” Without hesitation, she removed the bracelet from her wrist and presented it to Tim asking that whenever and where ever he sings I'll Stand Up and Say So he sings this anthem to honor Capt. Grimm and the thousands of other men and women who gave their lives in combat so that we may live another day in the Home of The Brave. Today Tim wears Capt. Grimm's Memorial Bracelet with pride. Like the giver of this once-in-a-lifetime gift, Tim never removes Capt. Grimm's Memorial Bracelet from his wrist. With every performance he dedicates I'll Stand Up And Say So to the memory of Capt. Grimm and often shares with his audience the story behind the bracelet; as well as, the story of heroism in which fourteen U.S. Airmen, Capt. Grimm included, lost their lives twenty-seven years ago saving a group of Marines on the ground from enemy fire. ====== See where country legacy lives in FULL episodes at http://www.CountryRoad.TV/ Subscribe to Country Road TV: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvsZTV36p6nyQ91CKK0zHIg
