The awesome Fanfare For the Common Man by Aaron Copland. This fanfare was written on request from Eugene Goossens, conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, in response to the US entry into the Second World War. During the First World War, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra had asked British composers for a fanfare to begin each orchestral concert. It had been so successful that he thought to repeat the procedure in World War II with American composers. Goossens suggested titles like Fanfare for Soldiers, but Copland gave it the much better title Fanfare for the Common Man. The piece was premiered 12 March 1943 at income tax time, as a homage to the common man. Even though it is american, I think it should be the "official" fanfare for alle the common people in the world. Kind of like they did the moonlanding for all mankind. This is just my personal opinion, and I mean no offence to americans for wanting to "steal" this one. Music Copyrights owned by Sony Music Entertainment.

Hi everyone, and welcome to my second page "AmericanTimeTraveler". This channel will be devoted to uploading performances by American classical musicians up to the '80s. There will be some otherwise or from afterwards, if possible, The reason behind this name is that the audio to all videos here will be remastered, meaning you'll get to see and hear historical performances with a modernized sound that's similar to what you hear in person or from recently-released recordings. In a way, it will be more like traveling back in time. In this video from 1958, American composer Aaron Copland conducts his Fanfare for the Common Man (finale from Symphony No. 3) with the New York Philharmonic. I believe this one would be a fitting piece to start it all off. Hope you enjoy! -------------------------------------------------------------- I present this remastering work to you under the context of Fair Use (Section 107) from the Copyright Law of the United States of America. This video isn't and shouldn't be intended for commercial use since I do not get revenue off of my videos and I will not permit such from anyone. It is regarded more as a nonprofit educational resource and something people can use for research or criticism/debate on the nature of this recording or maybe the ethics of remastering. -------------------------------------------------------------- Piece: IV. Molto deliberato "Fanfare for the Common Man" from Symphony No.. 3 Composer: Aaron Copland, USA Conductor: Aaron Copland Orchestra: New York Philharmonic Year of Performance: 1958 Remastered in 2017 By: Wayne Yang, USA --------------------------------------------------------- Want to connect? Bill Randolph, assistant organist at the cathedral, shows off this amazing instrument's big reed stops, including the world-famous State Trumpet. The recording was made in the cathedral choir -- 600 feet from the StateTrumpets -- so you get some of the sense of the vast space in this, the world's fourth largest church building -- and the largest Anglican cathedral in the world. This version of Copland's fanfare was arranged by former cathedral organist Dorothy Papadakos. New York's summer heat & humidity have obviously not treated the organ's tuning very well, & those big reeds are fiendishly difficult to keep in tune in the best of circumstances. An awe-inspiring sound, nevertheless.

Aaron Copland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man' was one of a series of fanfares requested from various American composers by conductor Eugene Goossens. These were to be played at the start of each concert during the Cincinnati Orchestra's 1942-43 season and it is Copland's offering that has retained a regular place in the the repertoire. The performance seen here opened the 2000 Proms Season In London's Royal Albert Hall under Sir Andrew Davis's direction. It is being published here on 14 July 2017 to mark the first night of the Proms 2017.

Aaron Copland's piece has almost gotten to be a cliche, but with the blazing reeds in this 8-second reverberation, it's still pretty damn impressive. The trompette-en-chamade at the front of the choir kicks in @ about 1:40, I think. Douglas Major, organist/choirmaster from 1988 to 2002, performs along with some anonymous percussionists.

The National Symphony Orchestra performs Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man." Copland's fanfare was composed in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra -- one of 18 fanfares written to promote patriotic response at America's entry into the second World War, and the only one still performed regularly. The name of the piece was inspired in part by a speech given by U.S. Vice President Henry Wallace. Part of JFKC: A Centennial Celebration of John F. Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland (Score Reduction and Analysis) A full score analysis of Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. - Composer: Aaron Copland (14 November 1900 -- 2 December 1990) - Orchestra: United States Marine Band - Conductor: Timothy W. Fowley - Year of recording: 2000 Aaron Copland's iconic Fanfare for the Common Man is without question his most internationally popular work, not least because it was once featured in an album by the rock group Emerson, Lake & Palmer, in which form it reached a global audience of huge numbers. The piece, which is scored for brass ensemble with timpani, bass drum, and tam-tam, originally came into existence as the result of a commission from the conductor Eugene Goossens, who in 1942 was serving as music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The work was one of a set of 18 fanfares written by various American composers during the dark days of World War II, all of which were expressly intended to promote feelings of patriotism and national unity. Copland's contribution to the project has been the only one of the set to find a place in the regular orchestral repertory; its original siblings have faded away. Analyzing its success, Stuart Ledbetter points out that "part of the reason for this is surely its splendid title, but even more is the soaring, heroic character of its opening trumpet theme." Appropriately, too, for a ceremonial expression of national pride, the fanfare begins with an arresting call to attention, with solemn, regular strokes from the percussion instruments, whose measured salvo precedes the first statement of the trumpet theme itself. The entire work is built around this original statement, which grows in intensity through exchanges of the theme between trombones and tuba, and then horns and trumpets. The score concludes with a magnificently effective percussion crescendo supporting a thrilling final sustained chord for the brass. While Copland was working on his Symphony No. 3 in the years 1944-1946, he commented that he was "certainly reaching for the grandest gesture." Indeed, the grandiloquence and colossal sense of optimism that underlies what is widely regarded as the greatest symphony by any U.S. composer is stunningly crowned by the reappearance of the Fanfare for the Common Man as a preface to the final movement. Actually, however, as Anthony Burton suggests, it "provides a focus for the work in a more subtle way: its intervals, especially the rising fourth and fifth of the first phrase, permeate the thematic material of the entire symphony." Celebrate freedom and independence. Sept 17th is the 225th anniversary of the US Constitution. Please take a few minutes to read it....it is only a few pages long, but it speaks volumes, especially the first 10 Amendments. Also, please remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifices so that we may have our freedoms. Many thanks, BigBen. This iconic 1943 piece needs no introduction from me. It was apparently written in honour of the common man at income tax time. To play this piano version I am using a 1999 arrangement for solo instrument and piano published by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music. The piano part largely incorporates the solo line, and it is not difficult to add in the extra notes. This version is used by trumpet players (I came across it while preparing to accompany one for an exam). I think it sounds odd with trumpet and piano - which cannot really represent the original brass and percussion orchestration - but turning it into a piano solo somehow makes a different piece. Nevertheless, I put this forward as a curiosity and in no way as an alternative to the majestic original. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk Email: channel@psear.33mail.com http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: piano2@psear.33mail.com ) Upcoming live events: https://events.time.ly/hsr9pfk YouTube community tab: https://is.gd/SV4II9 Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: piano3@psear.33mail.com ) Upcoming live events: https://events.time.ly/hsr9pfk YouTube community tab: https://is.gd/SV4II9 Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: piano3@psear.33mail.com ) Upcoming live events: https://events.time.ly/hsr9pfk YouTube community tab: https://is.gd/SV4II9 Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: piano3@psear.33mail.com ) Upcoming live events: https://events.time.ly/hsr9pfk YouTube community tab: https://is.gd/SV4II9
